Définitions en anglais sur les termes complexes de l’Antiquité
City-state = An independent city that governs itself and its surrounding territory, acting like a small country (e.g., Athens, Sparta).
Pharaoh = The ruler of ancient Egypt, considered both a king and a god.
Hieroglyph = A character or symbol used in the ancient Egyptian writing system; often pictorial.
Oracle = A person or place believed to provide wise, prophetic advice or predictions, often inspired by the gods (e.g., the Oracle at Delphi).
Senate = A governing council or assembly in ancient Rome; it shared or held political power and decision-making.
Forum = The central marketplace and public square in an ancient Roman city, used for meetings, business, and political discussion.
Agora = The town square or marketplace in ancient Greek cities, serving as the center for public life and commerce.
Roman legion = A unit of the Roman army made up of thousands of soldiers, renowned for discipline and military success.
