Définitions en anglais sur le thème

  1. A castle = A large fortified building or set of buildings, usually from the Middle Ages, used as a residence for nobility or royalty and for defensive purposes.

  2. A tower / A turret = A tall, narrow building or part of a building, often projecting from a castle, used for defense or as a lookout point.

  3. A courtyard = An open space enclosed by walls or buildings, typically found in the center or inside the walls of a castle.

  4. A drawbridge = A movable bridge at the entrance of a castle, which can be raised or lowered to allow or prevent passage over a moat.

  5. A moat = A deep, wide trench filled with water (or sometimes dry) surrounding a castle, intended as a defense against attackers.

  6. A portcullis = A heavy grilled door made of iron or wood, that slides up and down to block the entrance to a castle.

  7. The battlements = The defensive walls at the top of a castle, often with openings (crenellations) through which defenders could shoot.

  8. A postern = A small secondary gate or door in a castle wall, used for secret or emergency exits.

  9. Crenellations = The regular rectangular gaps and solid parts along the top of a castle wall, allowing archers to shoot while staying protected.

  10. A barbican = An outer defensive work or fortified gateway, typically protecting the entrance or drawbridge of a castle.

  11. An arrow slit = A narrow vertical opening in a castle wall through which archers could shoot arrows.

  12. The keep = The strongest and most secure central tower of a castle, used as the last line of defense and often the living quarters of the lord.

  13. A pinnacle = A small, slender, pointed architectural ornament at the top of a tower or roof.

  14. A dungeon = A dark, often underground, prison cell or room in a castle where prisoners were kept.

  15. A ruin = The remains of a destroyed or decayed castle or building, often with walls or towers still partly standing.

  16. A relic = An object or fragment from the past, especially associated with history, religion, or the remains of castles.

  17. The remains = The parts of a castle or fortress that have survived destruction or the passage of time.
